Range Rover Evoque was a new milestone for Land Rover. From the boxy shape to a stylish SUV that is a symbol of luxury and class. With the Land Rover name behind the Evoque, it is not a surprise that it instantly became a sensation. It is a shame that it couldn’t carry the bulletproof engine from the Land Rovers from the past.

Land Rover has been manufacturing SUVs for more than half a century. Today the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is known for its style, safety features, and performance on and off the road. Can the same be said about its reliability? How durable is the engine in a Range Rover Evoque? Rough Idling

Rough idling is a common Range Rover Evoque engine problem that you could encounter. You’d easily be able to notice the symptoms of rough idling. As the name suggests, the car will feel rough and vibrate vigorously when you are idle. Apart from that, you’d also see regularly changing RPM levels along with slipping or frisking noise when you drive.

There can be many possible reasons for rough idling such as,

  • Dirty spark plugs
  • Vacuum leak
  • Dirty fuel injector
  • Carburetor problems

In case of a vacuum leak, don’t waste your time trying to find the source of the leak. You are better off buying a few yards of vacuum line and replacing it. Once you are certain that the lines aren’t leaking, if the problem persists, start going through the components. Often the leak originates at the vacuum lines, so replacing it should solve your problem.

Loose Fuel Pump

A loose fuel pump is one of the more serious Range Rover Evoque engine problems, especially because it could lead to engine fires. Though the fuel pump is supposed to be secure in its housing, in this particular model, there is a chance of it coming loose. This results in fuel leaks which can lead to engine fires.

Unfortunately, there is not a lot you can do about this apart from routine inspections. Check whether the bolts are holding the fuel pump securely. Tighten them if needed. While you are at it, you also check the status of the o-ring that seals the fuel pump. Replace if damaged. If damaged, it will allow fuel to seep into the interior causing damage.

Hesitant Acceleration

When you do not get the desired amount of fuel pumped into the cylinders when accelerating, the lack of power generated results in hesitant or low acceleration. This could be caused by either a lack of maintenance or damaged sensors.

When looking at damaged sensors, there are several possibilities. Start by looking at the oxygen sensor. If that works fine, then you’d have to consider alternate possibilities such as a damaged or dirty mass air flow sensor or a faulty throttle position sensor.

Obstruction of the fuel or air flow could also interfere with combustion. This is where maintenance comes in. If your fuel pump or fuel lines are clogged or if your air filter is dirty, this could also result in hesitant acceleration.

Faulty Fuel Injection

Similar to a loose fuel pump, this could also lead to engine fires. In the 2018 Range Rover Evoque, the fuel rail end caps can leak. This causes fuel or fuel vapor to seep into the engine bay. In the presence of heat, such as a hot engine block, the fuel could ignite causing the engine to erupt in flames.

Due to this issue, Land Rover issued a recall for the 2018 Range Rover Evoque along with a few other SUVs of Land Rover. During the recall, Land Rover replaced affected fuel rails free of charge.

Engine Misfires

Engine misfires occur when one or more cylinders fail to ignite the fuel in time. It can either be a problem regarding the fuel supply or it could be related to igniting the fuel. When a cylinder misfires, at that particular moment it will not produce any power. There are many instances where a loss of power could result in a serious predicament.

The typical suspects in the case of a misfire are spark plugs. Along with faulty or dirty spark plugs, there are a ton of other possible reasons why your engine might be misfiring. Chasing the exact cause can be exhausting.

You can narrow it down if you can pinpoint when your engine is misfiring. If it only misfires when hauling heavy loads or accelerating, there is a good chance that the misfires are caused by defective intake valves. Defective Spark Coils

Spark coils also known as ignition coils are a key component to keep your engine functioning. They convert the measly voltage provided by the battery into something powerful enough to create a spark.

These small coils are known to be rugged. They tend to last upwards of 100,000 miles. But this is not the case in the Range Rover Evoque. In this particular automobile, the spark coils often fail prematurely. The symptoms of a failing ignition coil are quite similar to the symptoms of bad spark plugs. Here are a few to keep a look out for,

Oil Leaks

Oil leaks are one of the major Range Rover Evoque engine problems. There have many reports from previous owners regarding oil leaks. And it is not only the engine bay that suffers from this problem. Even the transmission is known to leak through the transmission pan seal. But in this article, let us look at engine oil leaks.

In the Range Rover Evoque, the oil leaks cannot be traced to one specific spot in the engine. Both the crankshaft and lower crankcase are susceptible to this problem. Usually, the oil seeps through the seals as they wear off with time.

In some reports, the Evoque is known to leak oil with less than 60,000 miles on its engine. There is a high probability that you’d end up shedding engine oil before you get 100,000 miles out of your Range Rover.

Though some oil leaks are easy to fix, when you leak oil due to wear, the problem is severe. Whether it is the crankshaft or the lower crankcase, you need to take it apart, to revive your engine. Especially with the lower crankcase, you’d have to spend a lot of man hours to take the engine apart. Since this is a complex repair, you should let an experienced mechanic do it. Procrastinating on these repairs is not an option either. When you are leaking oil, you could encounter sudden drops in the volume of engine oil. Without enough oil circulating the engine, it could seize up or cause a blown head gasket, costing even more to fix.
